The First Engineer is responsible for maintaining the main propulsion machinery and engine room auxiliaries in a safe and reliable working condition, and any other duties assigned to him.
Supervision and training of second Engineers and Engine ratings. Daily leader for work performed in the Engine Room, working to a forward work plan, he will work closely with the second Engineers to determine, plan and execute all routine and non-routine maintenance and repair.
Scheduling major maintenance work. (If such work affects the vessels operation, the Chief Engineer approval is required.) Assignment of engine day crew work. Housekeeping of the engine room spaces. Making sure all Engine Room safety equipment is in place and functioning correctly. The tracking and record keeping of the overtime hours for the engineering department ratings.
The First Engineer is responsible for the AMOS system for the Engine department and shall keep a close cooperation with the Technical Store Keeper and the Chief Engineer. He is responsible for the Engine Stores, parts and supplies, inventory control and purchase requisitions. He shall work closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure that the expenditures are within the limits of the approved budget.
Write a hand over report for your relief. Be familiar with Seabourn Health, Environment, Safety and Security Policy and SMS2008, and carry out the policies and procedures as appropriate to their position (Also his responsibilities in the Safety organization according to the Emergency plan and station bill.)
Responsible for ensuring that personnel under his supervision are aware of Seabourn Health, Environmental, Safety and Security Policy and the SMS 2008, as it apply to their positions
