Ian Clements – Bartender

Seabourn like to promote from within the company. They won't take someone from outside to join as a Bar Manager, they would rather see someone join from the bottom and progress to the top for cruise jobs. So from bar waiter to bar tender to bar manager.

Hi, I'm Ian, I'm British and I work on board the Seabourn Pride as a bar tender and I have been here for around 2 and a half years. Before I worked at Seabourn, I worked at a four star hotel, with 200 acres of land with a championship gold course and how it compares to Seabourn, I would say Seabourn has a much higher standard of operation, this is a six star operation, so the standards are obviously exceptionally higher. Seabourn is more luxurious and it is nice to wake up in a difference place everyday.

On board Seabourn, it is very intimate, it is a very small ship, nothing like the big ships with 2,000 passengers. It has 164 crew to 208 guests. So you would need to know the guests names within the first 2 days, you would need to know their drink. So, like I said, it is very intimate. You need great customer service to go that extra mile. You need to exceed upon expectations as you are always on stage. So if you are having a bad day, they would know, so you always need to keep the Seabourn smile.

I have gained a lot of experience in guest relations and I've gained a lot more product knowledge and hopefully when the ship does come out, The Odyssey, I will be able to take what I have learnt and maybe offer more hopefully when I get a transfer there - if I get a transfer there!
