Andre Gammeter – Chef de Cuisine

Hi, I'm Andre and I'm from Switzerland and I am the Chef de Cuisine of the Restaurant 2 on board Seabourn Pride. I joined the Pride in January this year, so this is my second contract.

A good friend of mine attracted me to work here at Seabourn because he spent a vacancy here and when we talked about it and I mentioned I wanted to work on a vessel, he told me that he had a very good experience and that it would be a great opportunity to go and work as a chef on board a Seabourn vessel. I am in charge of my own restaurant, the Restaurant 2 upstairs, so we are open for dinner, breakfast and lunches. Dinner is a little bit special. We have theme nights and also tasting nights, which is a 7 course menu. So it varies from a French bistro evening to an Italian troteria - it is very difficult to keep the standard to a high level and make sure every guest is happy because it's very intimate what we do here. We know all our guests very well and we always want to make sure they are happy.

It was always a dream for me to work on board a vessel and you see places where you have never been before, so that is one benefit. Also, you work with a lot of different nationalities here and it is like a big family and you feel comfortable because you live here on the vessel, it's not like you can go home afterwards.

I joined the ship as a Chef de Partie, in the main galley, so I was a regular Chef de Partie and now I am Chef de Cuisine of the Restaurant 2. So, this is a very good promotion. There are a lot of cruise job opportunities. The new vessel the Odyssey is being launched soon, so I see myself soon as Executive Chef de Cuisine here at Seabourn.
